Maria Rebecca Ballestra

1 June 2018

Labrysis a contemporary art project conceived and created by the visual artist Maria Rebecca Ballestra who, as the title suggests, investigates the theme - symbolic and visual - of the labyrinth, taking inspiration from the reading of the texts ofJulien FriedlerThe Truth of the Labyrinth. The project developed over two years through nine stages, each of which resulted in the creation of one or more works of art, the result of collaborations with other protagonists of the contemporary world (artists, choreographers, actors, writers, and so on). via ...), and in national and international artist residences.

In addition to the works created entirely by Maria Rebecca Ballestra and in collaboration with other artists, and those created by the invited artists, six historical photographic documents on the work of Land Art accompany this exhibition at the Testoni SpaceSpiral Jettymade in 1970 by Robert Smithsonat Rozel Point, Great Salt Lake, Utha - USA, and the work ofAldo SpinelliThe sign and the symbolof 1978, both kindly granted by the UnimediaModern Gallery in Genoa.

The subject "labyrinth" is not chosen by the artist in a casual way, on the contrary: Maria Rebecca Ballestra continues her reflection on this theme precisely in the light of the observation that the image of the labyrinth, in the different centuries and civilizations, has always been invested of different and "other" meanings. In fact, in the various stages of this project, the artist investigates, from time to time, a different aspect linked to the image and the concept of labyrinth and each of these reflections represents a different stage ofLabrys.
